BANGALORE: McAfee Inc., has announced that its Host Intrusion Prevention and ePolicy Orchestrator (ePOTM ) have been selected as the baseline for the U.S. Department of Defense's (DoD) Host-Based Security System (HBSS)
DoD will use McAfee tools to provide in-depth protection of the network while providing centralized management of host-based capabilities and enforcing standard configurations of host machines. HBSS will be deployed and used throughout DoD installations worldwide. The task order was awarded to prime contractor BAE Systems under the DISA I-ASSURE contract.
McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention, monitors and blocks intrusions by combining signature and behavioral protection with a system firewall. The solution integrates into the McAfee ePO management platform, for accurate, scalable and easy-to-use advanced system protection.
With automatic signature updates and zero-day protection, the DoD will be able to provide advanced vulnerability-shielding capabilities, which will cut down on patching and regulatory issues. Using McAfee ePO, administrators can keep protection up to date; configure and enforce security policies; and monitor security status from one centralized console. McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator also manages security postures maintained by other leading security solutions providers.
Mike Carpenter, vice president of federal operations for McAfee, Inc., said, "Cyber security and security risk management are increasingly pressing concerns in the government space. Our products are already widely used throughout the civilian, defense and intelligence community networks.”
