BANGALORE: Network Appliance, Inc. has introduced SnapManager for Oracle to simplify the backup and recovery of Oracle databases on NetApp storage.

NetApp SnapManager for Oracle leverages the power of NetApp Snapshot technology. It is an integrated disk-based backup and granular recovery solution for Oracle customers using Oracle Automatic Storage Management technology. It provides customers with continuous uptime for online backups.

NetApp SnapManager turns a multi-step backup and restore process into two simple commands from a single host machine.

"NetApp SnapManager for Oracle has the potential to eliminate 90-percent of the complexity associated with managing backup and recovery for our Oracle on Linux environment," said Hanan Hit, senior database architect at Mercury. "In addition to streamlining management, features like real-time backup validation protect against physical and logical corruption so there are no costly surprises during recovery procedures both locally and at remote data centers. SnapManager for Oracle does for block-based environments what the network file system (NFS) protocol does for file-based systems management of even an Oracle on storage area network (SAN) environment becomes automated and simple."

In the event of data corruption, SnapManager empowers database administrators (DBAs) to rapidly restore their Oracle data within one minute with no impact to database performance.

The solution automatically finds all files of an Oracle Database. This helps DBAs focus on what they manage the database rather than manually manage the storage systems, disks, host volumes, or host file systems. This slashes maintenance time, eliminates the need to create scripts, and reduces human error.

SnapManager for Oracle is available immediately in a controlled release basis and will be generally available in January 2006.
