CAIRO: Shared remote infrastructure management is the answer to the increasing customer demands for faster applications to be employed on handheld services and better throughput for file transfer, according to Deepak Jain, general manager, business head- Managed IT Services, Wipro Infotech.

Wipro's solution consists of building blocks on the core remote function services such as network management, database management, maintenance and backup management.

According to him some of the advantages in using shared remote management services include industry-wide best practices, capture of a knowledge base, which could be used across all industry verticals; Program management, which have to be aligned with business priorities and goals and program governance; tools to reduce intricacies of the problem, security and 24x7 monitoring.

Referring to date center services at the CIOL C Change 2006 being held here, Jain said the non-availability of multiple skill sets and lack of consistency pose a challenge, which could even result in business downtime.

“Remote shared services model monitors critical infrastructure 24x7. Even before a fault, it can be identified and preventive measures would be taken, resulting in more sure operations,” said Jain.

The 24x7 support in the shared remote model is also convenient for end users, he added.

Virtualization technology comes into play when using different servers and different operating systems. This requires a lot of manpower with multiple skill sets, which can be avoided by this technology, he said.

“Using this technology, one does not have to know all the operations as it works on the basis of commands-which gets translated into the specific languages automatically,” said Jain.

In all shared remote services would result in proactive monitoring, high availability, and low expenditure. Implementation costs are nil as upgradation and training can be avoided, and quick roll out and peace of mind are some of the other advantages, he said.
