BREW pushes TTSL' ARPU

Attributes over nine per cent of overall revenue to value-added services, with 30 million downloads coming from brew-based data services

BANGALORE: Tata Teleservices today announced that BREW services, which was launched in 2005 has increased its ARPU and has reached 30 million downloads of BREW content.

TTSL said in a statement that it attributes over nine per cent of overall revenue to Value-added Services to BREW services.

Pankaj Sethi, president, value-added services, Tata Teleservices Limited, said, "Qualcomm's BREW platform has helped us bring innovative and differentiated data offerings to our subscribers and grow our ARPU from value-added services to 9.4 percent. Innovations like the Qualcomm Single Chip have enabled us to extend compelling data services on low-end devices."

"Leveraging BREW and CDMA is helping us open up entertainment and information to mass customers through enriched services and fast downloads," he added.

The BREW services have grown rapidly with more than one million users accessing BREW services every month and the overall user base tripling in the last year alone. Today, Tata Zone, the value-added services portal for Tata Indicom, offers more than 500 BREW data applications.

Popular applications such as ringtones, wallpapers, games and email have been pre-installed on affordable devices to enable easy discovery. TTSL also has launched BREW in Hindi, which is expected to augment revenues from traditionally low ARPU locations, TTSL said in a statement.

"Through Qualcomm's long-standing relationship with TTSL, they have succeeded in offering exciting and innovative data services that address the varying needs and preferences of Indian consumers," said Arvin Chander, vice president, global carrier relations, Qualcomm Internet Services.

"TTSL's data services milestones exemplify the tremendous potential that BREW offers to wireless operators in enhancing their data revenues," Chander added.
