Sony unveils HD videoconferencing

New Delhi: Sony has introduced high definition (HD) videoconferencing system, the PCS-HG90, latest addition to SONY's IPELA range of IP-based products.

Sony showcased the PCS HG90 at the High Definition Visual Communication Shows that were held in Delhi on 18th of May and then in Bangalore on the 15th of June. The audience included management from the Government, Defence, Medical & Corporate sectors who experienced the cutting edge high definition video and life like sound.

Coming at a time when air travel delays, road congestion and environmental concerns are top of the agenda for many corporate companies, government organizations and small businesses looking to cut their travel budgets and improve staff efficiency.

The IPELA PCS-HG90 marks the first time that the HD video compression format of 1280 x 720 at 60P and a maximum video transfer rate of 8Mb/s have been achieved over an IP network. This means the PCS-HG90 with a 3CCD camera, which is part of Sony's complete range of professional-grade HD solutions, is able to deliver and demonstrate realistic and life-like images on large-screen HD displays and projections. The PCS-HG90 can also accept the HD video compression formats of 1080 x 50/60i from professional cameras.

The PCS-HG90 features clear and natural-sounding audio, frequency range up to 22 kHz using MPEG-4AAC and with AUX audio inputs supports up to 44 kHz. The top of the line PCSA-CHG90 is the only HD camera incorporating three 1/3-inch type HD CCD sensors resulting in outstanding picture quality with high resolution. It also delivers accurate colour reproduction even in low lightening conditions.

In HD video communications over an IP network, an intelligent QoS (Quality of Service) control is crucial because the quantity of transmitted data is 4 to 20 times greater than traditional SD transmissions. Incomplete picture frames caused by packet losses will increase even if the packet loss rate remains the same, resulting in a degradation of the video quality. To address this issue, the PCS-HG90 adopts a new intelligent QoS (Quality of Service) feature, FEC, ARQ and ARC, and is able to realize a remarkable reduction of the video artefact regardless of the transmission distance. The PCS-HG90 can also accept analog or digital video signals, from SD to HD, as well as PC signals.

Sony displayed the solution with Codian for integrating multi locations with HD and SD end points for seamless migration into complete HD setup for videoconferencing. Also on display was the wide range of videoconferencing and IP monitoring systems from Sony.
