IBM expands SMB footprint in Surat

BANGALORE:IBM India has announced the launch of its SMB operations in Surat, to enable the firm to provide better support to SME clients in and around that port city and help IBM's customers leverage IT for business growth.

This expansion is part of the firm's ongoing expansion strategy to Tier 2 cities throughout the country, IBM said in a statement.

Besides SMEs, mid-market businesses will also benefit from the new IBM Express Advantage initiative that provides SMEs with a unified end-to-end approach to help them innovate and expand.

IBM is one of the first companies to have a focus on the SME market starting in the early 1990's. Last year, IBM had announced a plan to extend its presence to 14 cities outside of the key metros, and so far the company has launched operations in Bhopal, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Goa, Jaipur, Jamshedpur, Lucknow, Nagpur, Nashik and Vizag.

IBM will expand operations to three additional cities including Bhubaneswar, Madurai and Ludhiana in 2007.

"We understand the challenges SMEs face and wanted to help them successfully address these challenges by providing easy access to a full range of our solutions and services. It is our goal to enable business transformation by arming SMEs with the right information, tools and technologies that will help them succeed," said Chetan Naik, vice-president, Global Mid-Market Business, IBM India/South Asia.

IBM's SME offerings have already been accepted in various industries in Surat including, Diamonds and Gems, Cooperative Banks, Textiles and Chemicals.
