publive-imageYou know how cramped your monitor screen looks when you open Internet Explorer, MSN Messenger and Windows Media Player, all at the same time.

What if you could open four different applications at the same time and run them all in full screen mode! Yes, that's true!

You can setup multiple monitors on a single PC and just drag each of the opened application to a different monitor. It is a costly procedure, but having four displays is not just a good option for managing multiple applications-it will also turn your nosey neighbors and geeky friends green with envy. Here is how it's done:

Requirements: You would need a few hardware changes if you already don't have them. You will need an SLI or CrossFire (for NVidia and ATI cards respectively) ready motherboard, on which you have to plug in two graphics cards with dual display output. Most newer cards support this.

But remember that both cards should be exactly the same and should have SLI or CrossFire in accordance with the motherboard. And of course, you need four monitors as well-for added bling, they should be all identical LCDs, 17” or larger.

Installation: Once you have got the above, you can move forward and install the graphics cards in the respective slots on the motherboard and connect the four monitors to the four video outputs on the graphic cards and turn on the machine. You might need DVI connectors to connect the monitors to the cards if they are not already available.

Final steps: Remember to download and install the latest drivers for the graphics cards from the respective manufacturer website and restart, if required. Now all the four monitors should be active. Right click on the desktop and click on properties.

Go to the settings tab where you would be able to see numbered icons for your monitors, numbered as one to four. Click on each numbered icon and check: extend my windows desktop into this monitor and click the OK button. You can now simply open up applications in the main monitor and drag them to the other monitor displays.

Tip: Alternately 2 monitors can also be setup which would be cheaper and would need only a single graphics card.
