Confectionary maker Perfetti on IBM IT candy

MUMBAI, INDIA: IBM has signed an IT services deal with the Indian subsidiary of Perfetti Van Melle, world’s third largest confectionary group. As part of this deal, IBM would design and build a green data center, provide the networking infrastructure for the data center as well as offer end-to-end facilities management services to the client.

As a press release adds, through this engagement, IBM aims to provide PVM India a robust infrastructure management, supporting its ambitious growth plans for the country. IBM will also help PVM India make its IT operations green by aiming to achieve energy efficiency to the tune of 17 per cent.

Commenting on the relationship with IBM, R. Ramesh Chari, Chief Financial Officer, Perfetti Van Melle India said, “Perfetti Van Melle is fully committed towards making its IT infrastructure Green and putting in place a Green data center was only logical. At PVM India, we have been striving hard to reduce cost, bring in operational efficiencies and provide quality services to both internal and external customers by leveraging various IT enablers. To achieve these objectives, we have partnered with IBM, which has set up an energy-efficient data center as per our organizational requirement. Our partnership with IBM is to further explore and implement some of their best practices and technology for mutual benefits.”

Through this agreement, signed earlier in the year, IBM will manage desktops and network spanning multiple locations. Also, by leveraging its unique NOC-Inside solution, IBM would be able to make the monitoring and management of PVM India’s IT infrastructure extremely easy and process-centric.

Talking about the critical role played by IT in PVM India’s operations and the company’s decision to select IBM, Basant Chaturvedi, Chief Information Officer, Perfetti Van Melle India said, “PVM India’s investments in Green technologies has resulted in both operational efficiency and cost savings. By leveraging virtualization, enhanced communication and collaboration tools and migrating to energy-efficient computing environment, PVM India has already saved significant amount this year. We have now partnered with IBM which has vast global experience to manage a complex IT environment like ours.
