Claiming that the addition of software is a process of expanding the product portfolio, Vinod Jain, CEO, Computer Planet said that the company is trying to be innovative in terms of adding new product categories into the distribution network. “At this point of time, where the market is witnessing a huge dip in sales, we have to keep innovating and adding new kinds of products to our portfolio. Packaged software is one such area, where the customer uptake is regular when compared to the other products, even at this point of slowdown,” Jain claimed.

To start with, Computer Planet has tied-up with Microsoft, Norton and Kaspersky. Jain informed that the company would be aggressive in adding more software products to its portfolio. “Packaged software doesn’t need any high-end technical knowledge to handle, and the service and support is provided by the vendors. Even, stocking is also not going to be an issue for the sub-distributors. Initially, we have planned to sell Microsoft, Norton and Kaspersky, and slowly, we would add more brands to our distribution portfolio,” he informed.

Computer Planet is already a sub-distributor for Acer, BenQ and ViewSonic range of products, and recently it added Numeric UPS, and Iomega external hard drives and DVD R/Ws to its distribution portfolio. Besides sub-distribution, the company is also into retail operations. Jain mentioned that the company has major retail expansion plans for the first quarter of FY 2009-10.
