The company entered the listing at number 859 based on its 2007 revenue of $2.136 billion.

“This recognition is truly a testament to our intense focus on client satisfaction and the culture of enrichment and growth for our employees—resulting in our ability to deliver consistently strong financial performance and value for our shareholders. We will continue to focus on the elements that make Cognizant special and build stronger customer businesses,” said Francisco D’Souza, president and CEO, Cognizant.

Cognizant had recorded its first one billion dollars in annual revenue in 2006 in less than 12 years since its inception. It took just additional 18 months for the company to cross the second billion in revenue in 2007.

Fortune 1000 is a list of the 1000 largest American companies, ranked on revenues by the American business magazine.

The report appears in Fortune magazine’s May 5, 2008 issue.
