Can you tell us about your new venture?

My new venture would be to enter into the GPS (Global Position System) products apart from forming a capital venture firm to tap the small IT firms, which have the potential to make it big. We are cautious and conscious on our new venture as both the Silicon Valley and Bangalore is watching on anyone who gets into something after making something else big earlier.

What made you to enter into an area, which is unexplored, and what in your point of view is the potential for GPS?

GPS has a lot more potential in every day use; it is just that no one has explored the possibility of commercialism in it. We would be concentrating on developing products and systems, which include software, hardware, and intellectual properties.

For example, about 5-6 years, when cell phones were not that prevalent, everyone in the industry thought GPS could be a good solution and everyone else, even in US strongly believed that the future was in WAP. However, it was proved wrong, even there too. At that point of time, we understood that to make the cell phone popular and at the same time user friendly, some kind of Audio-Video features should be provided, then we hit on the novel idea of providing cell phones with cameras and other multimedia software’s, which has invariably resulted in more people buying cell phones.

Thus, we were at the right place, at the right time, with the right product, developed by the right talent, which gave us the right kind of success, which was very much imminent.

Even then we also decided not to offer the solution to one mobile handset maker alone, even though they wanted exclusivity. We were strong on holding back our IP and thus offered it to multiple handset makers, which not only made the product successful but also popular.

As we know, India is not an IP-centric country, and adopting the similar methodology like my last venture, we are exploring the possibilities of developing the package alone and are in talks with some hardware manufacturers, who will use our solutions on royalty basis.

When and where is your new venture would be based and what are you plans?

The new venture, which is yet to be named, is still in the premature stage. We would be finalizing all the intricate details of what we are going to do, as I believe that being focused on what we do would yield us the ‘complete success’

What I meant as ‘complete success’ is that once the solution is developed, it should not only be beneficial to the company which is going to implement it and sell it, but also my employees, and also the venture capitalists, who invest on our strengths. Only if all the stakeholders are happy then I would consider ‘completely successful.’

As of now, we have decided that the new company would be based out of US, to facilitate sales and marketing as well for ‘raising funds.’ However, like my earlier venture too the operations will be based out of Chennai. We also have plans to get into Tier-2 cities.

Could you elaborate on why you plan to go to Tier-2 cities?

I, myself belong to a small town off Madurai. We have not yet understood that the real talent lies there. If my company could give the comfort and happiness for my employees of staying back at home, with their parents and still earn as much as their counterparts in other metropolitan cities, that is what I want to give the fresh talent.

Initially, we would be establishing development centers in tier-II cities like Madurai, Coimbatore and Trichy. The actual talent lies there, even now it is these people who migrate to Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad to work.
