Shared hosting operating system (OS) developer CloudLinux has announced a new and improved MySQL Governor system to help shared hosting providers manage and monitor MySQL usage more efficiently.

The new version of MySQL Governor streamlines the work of hosting providers that want to identify MySQL abusers by targeting just a few key hardware resources, said a release.

"With the use of content management systems (CMS) and other rich applications, MySQL usage is becoming a standard requirement for shared hosting customers," says Igor Seletskiy, Founder and CEO at CloudLinux.

"But as more customers use MySQL databases, it is easy for hardware resources to become stretched and performance to suffer. Our new MySQL Governor software is a powerful way to identify abusers, without the need to configure a wide range of complex parameters. Hosting companies can effectively monitor MySQL usage, without dramatically increasing their workloads," added Seletskiy.

The release further added that using a container system called Lightweight Virtual Environments (LVE), CloudLinux allows each individual shared web hosting plan is allocated a specified amount of hardware resources, including CPU, RAM, and disk IO.

With these rigid resource limits in place, hosting companies can increase their revenue by filling their hardware servers to capacity as no customers will be able to monopolize system resources, added the release.

CloudLinux is an operating system that was developed in response to the requirements of shared hosting companies that were not being met by any other system.
