KOLLAM, INDIA: T Srinivasan, managing director, India and SAARC from VMware started off his session at C-change 2012 by drawing a connection between Kalidasa’s vision to use megh, aka badal, aka cloud to send messages to his beloved, to the present day computing over the cloud, used to bring transformation in businesses.

“What the poet envisioned 3,000 years ago, is becoming a reality today,” he added.

In an age where everybody is having at least two devices, the modes of delivering and accessing information is changing and the whole industry is moving towards a ‘post PC era’.

These only add to the woes of IT heads, who have to be on their toes to accompany these changes.

“Not just the communication landscape, but even the application landscape is changing  so much so that today even Microsoft and SAP applications are also being virtualized.

“The business landscape has changed a lot today, and has in turn brought in cloud to address them.

“Today we have moved away from the traditional client server infrastructure. IT transformation will lead to business transformation,” he noted.

So it is time to build cloud infrastructure, cloud application platform and transform applications for cloud and it all start with virtualization.

“The future is here, where desktop is delivered as a service, applications are provided as catalogues and data and applications can be moved anywhere, and it is all because of cloud,” he signed off.
