IBM vice-president B. Chandrashekar vouched for this, before he embarked on explaining about the new phenomenon on the horizon at C-Change 2012 here on Friday.

On its part, IBM had pumped in a huge sum on research into big data and strongly believed that workload optimized systems are the future of managing workload in enterprises, he added.

“As a lot of unstructured data is brought in, managing it is going to be too dramatic. In medical sciences, for instance, there is the multiple diagnosis option being offered more these days and in telecom, there are various schemes, including mobile number portability.”

Adding that IBM is into servicing these sectors as well as in e-commerce, Chandrashekar explained about the Visa Card real-time authentication system. “It used to be done offline before, but now, we have facilitated the new online system,” he said.

The world is entering the next era of computing, where integration of big data in optimized systems, managed on cloud, would unlock new insights, he asserted. “It is reality and you can’t run away from it. The sooner you adapt to it, the better.”

Also, he revealed the company’s intentions to deploy its Watson technology across sectors, such as healthcare, finance and customer service.

According to Chandrashekar, cloud wasn’t about how easy one could make it, as it masked complexity of underlying components.

“It’s not a sexy journey; it’s about what we get out of it.”
