“It's an incredibly exciting time today with new technologies, new rich applications, Internet and multiple devices,” said Ballmer during his Mumbai visit today.

“Now we are seeing 'next generation' of technologies, applications and mobile devices with information and data available with Internet platforms which is integrated with applications and devices. And our key focus areas are clients and browser, servers and cloud, runtime and tools that are rich and intelligent, based on broad platforms,” said Ballmer, about Microsoft's next generation products.

Globally, as cloud is becoming the next big thing for the IT industry, Ballmer said that cloud is the future for Microsoft as well as the IT industry. “Cloud is the direction towards which we are developing our products such as Windows Live, Windows Azure, SharePoint, Microsoft Silverlight and others.”

He added that whenever people talk about cloud they mostly think of public clouds where they get software applications on lease but the future will be private cloud because security, privacy and reliability remain the key concerns for businesses and users.

“It's (cloud) a fusion of Internet, best of the enterprise data center technologies, smartphones, TV and other devices. We are bringing together Internet with enterprise data center technology on cloud to benefit the users,” Ballmer explained how Microsoft is aligning its new products with cloud.

Further he stressed that there are five dimensions of cloud. “Cloud creates new opportunities and responsibilities; learns and helps you learn, decide and take action; enhances your social and professional interactions; and it needs smarter devices and devices that drive the cloud.”

According to Ballmer, cloud will open up new business opportunities and benefit for users and developer community.
