PLANO, USA: ClearDB, the innovative cloud database service for MySQL developers, announced that its ClearDB Iron technology is now powering all of its new multi-tenant clusters in the Amazon EC2 cloud. ClearDB Iron clusters are up to 30x faster than standard MySQL, for both reads and writes, giving its users a significant performance boost in the cloud.

"Our goal with ClearDB Iron is to bring that ‘real iron' experience to the cloud," said Michael Russo, VP of Sales and Marketing at ClearDB. "The cloud has significant advantages over more traditional database hosting options, but developers need a solution that delivers the benefits of the cloud without a big hit to performance. ClearDB Iron uses a tiered virtualized storage technology that delivers a performance boost of up to thirty times over standard MySQL configurations, and it does it without sacrificing data security or high availability."

ClearDB Iron, which was developed under the codename "Project Halo," leverages its proprietary, patent-pending storage technology to lift the I/O throughout watermark of the virtual server instances that power ClearDB's multi-tenant clusters in Amazon EC2 to their total I/O capability.

"The neat thing about Iron is that the performance boost comes at no additional cost to our customers," says Russo. "Plus ClearDB's multi-tenant clusters are still geo-replicated, fault tolerant and secure, and our users still enjoy the same zero-administration experience that has made ClearDB such a hit with MySQL developers."

ClearDB customers who purchased a multi-tenant database plan on Amazon EC2 prior to July 25, 2014 can move to a ClearDB Iron cluster by purchasing a new plan, migrating their data and updating their configuration settings. Plan pricing remains unchanged.

ClearDB's multi-tenant database services are available on Amazon EC2 through select channel partners such as Heroku, Pivotal, IBM BlueMix, RedHat Openshift, and AppFog. Single-tenant dedicated clusters powered by ClearDB Iron are also available through ClearDB directly.
