Tyler Technologies, Inc. has signed a contract with the city to implement Microsoft Dynamics AX, an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution with public sector functionality that Tyler Technologies jointly developed with Microsoft. The contract includes software licenses, related implementation services, training and support.

Kingston conducted a competitive review process before selecting Tyler, the announcement explained. Kingston will also be able to access provincial and federal reporting within Microsoft Dynamics AX, as well as processing for the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). HST is in effect in five of the 10 Canadian provinces and is collected by the Canada Revenue Agency.

The city of Kingston has a population of 120,000 and spans 173 square miles. Two municipally owned utility companies, Kingston Hydro and Utilities Kingston, are included in the project.
