Cisco unveils 'Intelligent Urbanization' Global Blueprint

BANGALORE, INDIA: Cisco's 'Intelligent Urbanization' Global Blueprint, a global initiative that emphasizes on creating integrated city management using network as platform, was unveiled by John Chambers, Chairman and CEO of Cisco here.

Under the blue print Cisco plans to partner with local governments world-wide to enable them to have integrated and intelligent management systems. Cisco as a partner will provide the governments with all necessary IT infrastructure like surveillance products, solutions and services.John Chambers

John Chambers who launched the initiative at the Cisco Globalization Centre East said that the emphasis will be laid on creating integrated management systems for public safety and security, transportation, buildings, energy, health care and education.  “A number of countries have already shown  their interest in the Cisco initiative and I hope each of these verticals will be a $1 billion business for Cisco in a few years time”, he added.

The Cisco Chairman observed, “Despite the global economic slowdown, urbanization is fast happening throughout the world”. “The number of people living in urban ares will grow from three billion to five billion by 2030 and this would throw tougher challenges to the local governments. By adopting intelligent solutions governments would be able to save heavily and also manage their resources more efficiently. ”

Emphasizing on the need for integrated city management,  he said that by 2030  the 20 most  populous cities alone will be responsible for 75 percent of the planet’s energy consumption. Further the CEO  added that the network has become the next utility, enabling the holistic, intelligent and environmentally sustainable creation and management of cities, industries and public services.

Building on the thought leadership developed through Cisco’s ongoing efforts with Connected Urban Development (CUD), the 'Intelligent Urbanization' initiative will bring together a broad portfolio of Cisco’s products, services, partners and solutions. The initial focus will be on global sustainable solutions for public safety and security, transportation, buildings, energy, health care and education.
