NEW YORK: RealNetworks Inc. plans to announce on Monday that Cisco Systems
Inc. will help sell its Internet audio-and-video broadcasting technology to
businesses, the Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition on
Monday.
Under the deal, which could strengthen RealNetworks' efforts to sign up more
corporate customers to use its software, San Francisco-based Cisco will sell
RealNetworks' RealSystem iQ software products - used for "streaming,"
or broadcasting audio and video over the Internet - to clients such as Internet
service providers and large businesses with wide-reaching corporate networks,
the newspaper reported.
As part of the deal, Cisco will receive a portion of the proceeds from
RealNetworks products it sells, though the companies declined to disclose
further details, the newspaper reported.
