WASHINGTON, US: Computer networking giant Cisco Systems has reportedly laid off “several hundred employees” as part of the company's plan to reduce costs amid slow sales.

Between 600 and 700 people were laid off at the company's headquarters in San Jose, California, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday. The company has also cut jobs at other branches in the United States, although the total number was not immediately clear, the report added, citing a person familiar with the matter.

"We are doing everything possible to minimize the impact on employees affected by the limited restructuring," a Cisco spokesman told WSJ.

Recently Weisel analyst Hasan Imam had said that job cuts would help Cisco exceed cost cutting targets. Responding to the report Cisco had said that it was not in a new round of layoffs.
