Cisco forges desktop virtualization deal with VMware

SAN JOSE, USA: Networking gear-maker Cisco and virtualization technology provider VMware announced a desktop virtualization solution based on Cisco unified computing system (UCS) and VMware View 4.5.

The new Cisco Desktop Virtualization (CDV) solutions, which are scheduled to be available next month, will support Cisco Nexus 1000V, and EMC and NetApp storage solutions.

The CDV solution with VMware View will be one of the core modules of the Cisco Virtualization Experience Infrastructure (VXI) system.

Soni Jiandani, vice president, Server, Access and Virtualization Technology Group, Cisco, said: "Combining our innovation in unified computing with VMware View desktop virtualization, we are helping our customers quickly benefit from the operational savings of desktop virtualization."
