NEW DELHI: To overcome the competition from private mobile operators across the country, telecom major, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is planning to re-brand its prepaid cellular service, 'Excel' as 'Excel Power'.

With private operators coming up with slew of new schemes and offers to woo the customers, BSNL is also taking active interest to attract subscribers to its nation wide network. In order to enhance value for its prepaid customers, the PSU is planning to re-brand its Excel brand to Excel Power.

Under the Excel Power plan, BSNL would offer its subscribers to call at any two BSNL phones within the circle at a reduced tariff of 10 paisa per minute. BSNL official sources said that among the two phone numbers opted by the subscribers one number should be a landline.

Excel is the pre-paid service of the CellOne Cellular Service of BSNL. All India roaming facility is also available on Excel service. Cellone is the Post paid service of the BSNL. The total mobile subscriber base of BSNL, including the prepaid and the post paid stands at 1,82, 93,682 as on June 30, 2006.

“This tariff rate will only be available for the two numbers chosen by the customers while taking this connection. The pulse rate will be 60 second for each call made on those two numbers,” the official said. However, the charges for all other calls will be charges according to the plan. This tariff rate will only be available under this plan.

“Customers will be able to avail this service under the Excel Power plan only. We are offering this service at rock bottom price, which is definitely going to attract our valued customers. One can choose this plan to avail this service and include the two phone numbers of family and friends or the number he calls the most,” the source added. However, the numbers once selected by the subscriber cannot be changed for a period of six months.

Apart for this plan the BSNL also has the Excel Anant and Excel One-India.
