NEW YORK, USA: According to market research firm, Yole Development, a double digit growth would be witnessed for MEMS devices. The MEMS market is forecasted to grow from Rs.62, 841.53 crore ($11.5 billion) in 2012 to reach Rs.1.15 lakh crore ($21 billion) by 2017.

As noted by Yole, The MEMS market in 2012 is up 12.7 per cent over the size of the market in 2011.

The major growth areas are that of motion sensing and micro fluidic MEMS which will witness continuous growth. These two segments in the MEMS market will constitute almost half of the total market of Rs.1.15 lakh crore ($21.1 billion) in 2017.

Accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers and combination sensors together will account for about 25 per cent of the total in 2017, and microfluidics for 23 per cent, Yole forecasts. In 2011, combination sensors were a new and emerging product category but Yole estimates that the market will be worth Rs.9, 289.62 crore ($1.7 billion) in 2017.
