The outage knocked internet services offline for a large number of GoDaddy customers
BANGALORE, INDIA: A day after GoDaddy site went down, the company has attributed the downtime to technical issues and ruled out a hacker attack.A GoDaddy statement said “The service outage was not caused by external influences. It was not a ‘hack’ and it was not a denial of service attack (DDoS),” interim CEO Scott Wagner said in an e-mailed statement. “We have determined the service outage was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables.”
The outage knocked internet services offline for a large number of GoDaddy customers between about 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Pacific on Monday.
Following the outage, GoDaddy had to turn to competitor VeriSign to restore service to its GoDaddy.com domain, which was also knocked offline.
An anonymous hacker claimed responsibility for the attack, but according to Wagner’s statement, that claim was bogus.
“We have implemented measures to prevent this from occurring again,” Wagner said. “We apologize to our customers for these events and thank them for their patience.”
