Eric Schmidt explains as to why some Nexus devices haven't made it to India yet, at the Google Big Tent Activate India Event

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt, who's in India to attend the Google Big Tent Activate Event, answered questions from the audience today. But there was one particular question, which received applause from the spectators.

A developer, who works for Google, asked Schmidt as to why India does not get the 'low-cost' Nexus products on time. Eric Schmidt said that this was something they are working on. Apologising for that, he also added that the Nexus devices do not remain low-cost and end up costing more in India, and hence they were working on it. Google Big Tent Activate Event is being aired live on NDTV

Last month, a report on IBN Live said that the reason behind the delay in India launch of the LG Nexus 4 was a debate between LG and Google over the price tag of the smartphone. The report, quoting an unnamed source, said ''They (LG and Google) have not yet come to terms on whether to opt for the same price model at which Google introduced the phone in the US, or let LG determine the price of the new phone for the Indian market.''

It should also be kept in mind that some of the previous Nexus smartphones such as Galaxy Nexus and Nexus One were never launched in India and the second Nexus smartphone 'Nexus S' was made available after several months of the global release.

Due to the delay, some users have also apparently asked their relatives and friends to get the LG Nexus 4 for them from the US. ''If you have friends in US, You can get your Nexus phone 16 GB at Rs 21000. It all depends upon your friends network and their willingness to help you',' says a CIOL reader.

So, what is your opinion on this issue? What must Google do to make the Nexus devices available in India on time? Do let us know.

This is unfortunate. It is more of a loss for LG and Google then for indians ,as they will source it from whereever they can for the best possible price. Indians are Smart.

It is all because, of corruptions, that, companies are not able to launch the Products in time and on low price. Telecomunication ministry and there offices, were asking huge bribe to launch the product by seeking part of profits. These all corrupt politicians and babu's are making everytinh cost for us.

They just don't have enough of them for India. When Eric went to North Korea he was able to clear the bottleneck enough to supple the US but with the recent Kaesong shutdown even that is in question...:-)

First of all i dont understand why these people treat Indians in such a inferior way. IS India so backward or underdeveloped the way they think. Either they underestimate us or want to undermine us. And also when coming to India they try to make out the profit which they lost in US and UK markets by sellimg on higher prices than what it is in US or UK. Now if this nexus 4 is sold at Rs.19000 for 16 gig which is equivalent to US price then the volume of sales LG or Google can sell in India will be more than put together entire world markets.

Why buy Google ? Every co. Has its lifecycle and soon google will be consigned to the dustbin. Stick to established brands. Latest os is hype created by google to further its products. I have a pc I bought in 2000. Still working and I see no need to upgrade.don't be taken in by mktng hype , we have no obligation to buy stuff from mnc's seeing our everyday domestic use. Don't be a fanboy of western products or trends. Think independently.

Google have more professionals appointed to think upon this. What we can do is just wait until they come with a solution in favour of Indian Market.

it's shows hypocrisy from Google, having an R&D office in inida, having an Indian heading Android and Chrome product but not introducing the flagship phone here.
