SoShare, which is based on a BitTorrent browser plug-in, is specifically aimed at media industry professional who send large files on a daily basis

BANGALORE, INDIA: BitTorrent announced SoShare Beta, a free file delivery service that allows file transfer of up to terabyte data in one transfer.

SoShare, which is based on a BitTorrent browser plug-in, is specifically aimed at media industry professional who send large files on a daily basis.

Catherine Meek is a Director of Product Management at BitTorrent, on The Official BitTorrent Blog, writes: "SoShare's a public beta that evolved out of a simple need. As coders, designers, and content creators, we have to deliver large files on a daily basis. We're not alone, by the way. 3.34 million Americans work in creative industries. And still: there's no media delivery service for people who work in media. You can't fit everything into an attachment. Syncing services have caps. Delivery services have limits. SoShare doesn't."

Users have to first sign up for the service and create a free account, and then install the SoShare plug-in to start uploading audio, film, or design projects.

On the other hand, recipients need not create an account to access the file. The files sent remain live for 30 days. Users can also create a public link, in case they want to share it via chat, Twitter, or Facebook. Seems like BitTorrent is doing its bit to compete the likes of YouSendit, DropBox, SkyDrive etc.
