India pays tribute to the 23-year-old rape victim. You can leave your condolence messages here

ISLAMABAD/DHAKA: The news of the death of an Indian gang-rape victim in Singapore has shattered India and it was prominently displayed Saturday on the websites of leading Pakistani and Bangladeshi dailies.

Pakistani Geo TV's lead story was an agency copy on the death of the 23-year-old woman, who was brutally gang-raped and tortured in a moving bus in the Indian capital on December 16. The photograph of Singapore's Mount Elizabeth hospital accompanied the story.

Dawn, Pakistan's leading daily, in its top stories section, ran the story headlined "Indian rape victim dies in hospital".

It also ran an agency report on the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was deeply saddened by the victim's death.

Bangladesh's Daily Star website prominently displayed on its front page the death of the young physiotherapy student in Singapore. It, too, carried a photograph of the Mount Elizabeth Hospital, where eight doctors struggled to take care of her, after she was flown to Singapore from the Indian capital on Thursday.

Meanwhile, security has been stepped up around India Gate in New Delhi. The Delhi Traffic Police, meanwhile, posted on its Facebook page, "Entire central Vista including Rajpath, Vijay Chowk and all road leading to India Gate will be closed for general traffic, Kamal Attaturk Marg also closed. All traveller advised to avoid these roads." (sic)

Restricting of movment around India Gate and other places in Delhi has once again sparked off anger among people.

Anupam Kher ‏tweeted (@AnupamPkher), "This is NOT the time to shut down Metros, India Gate or India. This is the time to Apologise,Say SORRY for letting People down." (sic)

Even journalist Rajdeep Sardesai tweeted: "Why is india gate barricaded and turned into a war zone? A govt can't be afraid of its own people." (sic)
