Whats App users' status message displays ''Error: Status unavailable'', which has led to a lot of panic with 'hoax messages' on the same being circulated
BANGALORE, INDIA: If you are one of them, who completely trusts the highly popular free messaging and file sharing application WhatsApp, you would have come across a peculiar problem today. The users' status message is being displayed as ''Error: Status unavailable''. The problem, which seems to have started a few hours ago has created a lot of panic.
Users of WhatsApp have taken to social media and are asking people if everyone is facing the same problem. ''I can't seem to view others' statuses on whatsapp . Is it me or its happening on everyone's phone?'' asks one such user on Twitter. ''Someone please tell me why is this happening on whatsapp? Or is it just happens to me?,'' says another. But, the problem now is that chain messages are being sent saying
''Whatsapp is shutting down on 28th jan Message from Jim Balsamic (CEO of Whatsapp) we have had an over usage of user names on whatsapp Messenger. We are requesting all users to forward this message to their entire contact list. If you do not forward this message, we will take it as your account is invalid and it will be deleted within the next 48 hours. Please DO NOT ignore this message or whatsapp will no longer recognise your activation. If you wish to re-activate your account after it has been deleted, a charge of 25.00 will be added to your monthly bill. We are also aware of the issue involving the pictures updates not showing. The 'hoax messages' seem to have infuriated users all the more. ''This Whatsapp chain message is more annoying than all those forward mails of 2004-7 put together!,'' tweets a frustrated user. ''guys... dont be so gullible... the whatsapp chain message is a stupid hoax,'' tweets another.
However, the actual reason for the problem has been given by what seems to be the official WhatsApp accounts on Twitter and Facebook. ''WhatsApp status functionality is currently not available. We are working on resolving it soon,'' says the message. Although, it's yet to be seen when the problem will get fixed. That said, are you a WhatsApp user? Did you believe the 'hoax message' when you got it? Do let us know. (Update: Some users have been able to fix the problem by refreshing their contact list)

haha! Happened to me late last night and I fell for it for a few minutes! Then I just refreshed the contacts without thinking and was all back to normal. But I did send the hoax message to one person before I decided to just refresh lol. I'm a sucker haha!

this should be the ultimate reply to the users who send warnings. :-p In an hour the whatsapp aircraft will be flying over India to censor all active whatsapp users. You must stand on your terrace in a pink Chaddi and wave a purple polka dotted flag at the plane while doing the macarena. After doing this your whatsapp service will be restored. If you do not broadcast this message an alien will come down and slap you with a fish.It works. This is for all who think sending a message would turn your icon blue or red and you'll be a permenent user.;)
