BANGALORE: Hewlett-Packard has announced the availability of HP StorageWorks 1000i Virtual Library System (VLS1000i) for LAN-based servers.
This entry-level solution is aimed at small, medium and branch office IT environments that do not require the offsite maintenance of data or tape media.
HP said in a statement that this launch offers customers a disk-based storage solution that provides both unattended backup and rapid restoration of data.
The system utilizes tape emulation to allow for seamless integration into current tape-based data protection environments. By emulating a tape drive or autoloader, the solution can be configured to provide unattended backup using the customers’ existing backup software application.
This storage solution will assist the customers with several industry leading features: Simple backup management process by providing “anywhere, anytime” access through a web-based browser interface; Preconfigured for use in virtual tape applications and includes a copy of HP StorageWorks Data Protector Express Single Server edition, providing a ready-to-use solution in the box; Capable of storing more than 1.5 TB of data, using an integrated data compression feature; and Supports gigabit (Gb) ethernet iSCSI connectivity for simultaneous backup of multiple servers to a single storage device on the network
The VLS1000i allows businesses to minimize the management requirements and expense associated with onsite tape management. The VLS100i will be an economic solution to meet the challenges of data in small and medium businesses, the statement added.
