BANGALORE: Riverbed Technology introduced its latest solution for enterprises, which the company said will effectively address the problems of high latency and low bandwidth that plague applications over wide area networks (WAN).
The solution, Riverbed Optimization System (RiOS) version 3.0, aims to deliver improved scalability and tries to optimize the performance across all traffic types.
The company also launched its three new WAN optimization appliances, Steelhead appliances, that according to company delivers high scalability over the network by doing away with the performance issues that crop up while migrating data from remote offices to central data centres.
The company said is possible because the Steelhead appliances, connected at each end of WAN link, reduces the volume of traffic by analyzing the data itself and then optimize as to what gets into the network doing away with repetitive data.
“Anything redundant just gets eliminated from the network. Most of the time that is 50 per cent and at times even 90 per cent of the data,” said Apurva Dave, senior product manager, River Bed Technology
Dave added that their solution also helps enterprises to reduce the cost of the IT infrastructure. “ Our solution does away with need for distributed file servers and related equipment at the remote sites.”
He added that LG electronics was able to accelerate its ERP twenty times after roping in Riverbed product.
This ability to improve data delivery to workers at remote sites, while saving money compared to alternative configurations and solutions, according to Dave has helped the company to rope in close to 1000 customers.
Riverbed Technology started its operations in 2004 and rolled out its first product by 2005. The company has OEM deals with HP, McData and NEC and has close to 250 resellers.
“In India we started our operations only 10 months back and we have 50 customers and that says lot about product and its efficacy” said Dave while outlining the company’s roadmap to go public by next year.
“ We plan to raise an IPO on the Nasdaq stock exchange by the next year,” Dave added. However, he remaining tight-lipped about the scale of Riverbed revenues from the Indian region.
