NEW DELHI: The industry has urged for a strategy to bring about connectivity in rural areas.
With the government talking about connectivity, ‘there is a lack of strategy to go ahead in connecting the rural areas’.
“Everyone is talking about connectivity, but no strategy in place to connect the rural areas. The government should formulate a strategy to make the connectivity successful,” said Akhil Gupta, joint managing director, Bharti Airtel at the CII-CEOs Forum on Thursday.
He also urged that the BSF should share their spectrum for rural connectivity to make this move successful. “This is the only solution to connect the interior areas of the country through telecom connectivity,” he said.
However, the Ministry of Communications and IT is also working on the spectrum policy which is likely to be announced in the couple of months. Dayanidhi Maran, minister of Communications and IT, said that the spectrum policy will be announced shortly. “We are looking forward to announce it shortly.”
“The roaming charges levied by the mobile companies will also come down soon,” hinted Maran.
