CHENNAI: Sun Microsystems today announced the launch of its Control Center in Chennai, the first in APAC and the third across the globe.

The facility is a 24/7 centralized operations centre for managing and monitoring customers' IT infrastructure and processes. Sun said in a statement that the APAC Control Centre is one of the key components of its managed operations with the capability of receiving data for customer site events, running millions of events per day, filtering actionable events and responding to customers within 15 minutes.

Additionally, the Control Centre will manage changes at customer sites, monitor and manage performance and inventory data. The centre will have an initial capacity of 300 skilled engineers who will integrate seamlessly with Sun's other Control Centres in the US and Europe.

The shared use of tools, a common knowledge base as well as experts, will enable Sun to deliver world-class capabilities. Through a predictive management approach and proprietary knowledge base, Sun identifies and resolves issues before they even begin to affect businesses, the statement said.

Speaking at the launch, Jeya Kumar, vice-president (Services), Asia Pacific, Sun, said, “We evaluated capabilities throughout Asia Pacific to determine the best match of skills, language and access to resources in order to meet our customers requirements and found India to be the perfect match. Our primary objective is to ensure we deliver the highest quality service that meets our customers’ business needs. The addition of a ControlCenter in India will expand Sun s current service delivery capacity to provide high-touch customer service and expertise in line with Sun’s overall service delivery framework, while meeting growing customer demand.”

Partnering with customers in operational areas where they require support will be one of Sun Services’ differentiators from competitors who traditionally try to take full control of customers’ IT environments. Sun will understand customers’ specific needs, to design and deliver Managed Services to meet their objectives.

With a focus on the predictive management of applications, infrastructure, networks, and security systems, enterprises can look forward to a structured set of operations management functions that deliver 24/7/365 maintenance, administration, tuning, and optimization. Sun Managed Operations Services provide a scalable solution that satisfies the diverse and complex infrastructure requirements of today's global enterprises.
