Could you give an update on the signing of the agreement with Citrix, and the acquisition?
By combining forces with Citrix, the former NetScaler business gains a tremendously expanded reach in the marketplace. The Application Networking Group (ANG) products also enjoy greater market acceptance as part of a stronger global brand. Further, as part of Citrix, ANG gains access to one of the largest and most loyal customer bases in the industry-of more than 160,000 Citrix customers worldwide-with 95% loyalty ratings, according to customer surveys, among the highest in the industry. ANG also gets access to more than 5,000 channel partners.

How will NetScaler help the Citrix access platform and enhance present server deployments?
NetScaler brings to Citrix's customers market-leading expertise and products that strengthen the delivery services element of the Citrix Access Platform by optimizing the delivery of applications deployed via Citrix Presentation Server and extending the best access experience value proposition of the Citrix Access Platform to a full range of Web-based applications. Citrix NetScaler's optimization technology is critical to delivering Web applications to an increasingly mobile workforce around the world. With the need to make Web applications more secure and the need to consolidate data center customers, we developed products to solve application performance issues through intelligence rather than through conventional methods of adding bandwidth and server capacity.

With the acquisition of NetScaler, Citrix can provide intelligent interpretation between applications traveling over the network and the users connecting to those applications. While some traditional networking products may only be “application-aware”, Citrix, with its application expertise, makes products that are truly “application-fluent”. By being fluent at the application level, Application Networking Group solutions can dramatically enhance performance, security, manageability, reliability and availability of those applications over the network, greatly improving the experience of users.

What kind of market is there for the NetScaler line of products?
The market includes Internetcentric companies such as Rediff, Cricinfo, Mediaturf, SBI Online, etc.

Will you offer technology as a service?
We offer a networking product, a system to address the needs to continuous access in a completely secure environment, and at high speed. What customers are looking for is a complete, efficient and cost effective system.

What new applications are being offered in network application delivery?
They are applications that allow for HTTP, xml and Java. These are really what you can term as modern web based applications. Others are still catching up, at least 2-3 years behind.

What key challenges are your customers facing in the area of application delivery?
Back in 1999-2000, corporations opened multiple data centres. The cost of running these data centres were very high. They later went on to consolidate to fewer data centres, often limiting it to just one or two places.  So all the applications were consolidated into one or two data centres. Unlike in the past, today you can access office applications from anywhere and do not have to go to work to do so with applications in Seible, Oracle etc.

Users are moving away from multi application systems and so all applications are getting consolidated into just one or two data centres. More and more companies are deploying web-based applications. Web applications are ubiquitous. You don't need a client. You can use a regular browser to open any application. Web applications are chatty. They chat too much between the server and the desktop, which means there is a lot more traffic on the network. Now, since you have exposed your applications to anyone, anywhere you need to increase security. When you do all this, your applications become slower.

What will be the key areas in enterprise application in future?
There will be a higher degree of penetration from our end. We will extend
into newer markets with newer technologies. We will work on areas like Application Firewalls, Optimization, Enterprise-wide solutions and WLAN. Application Firewalls is a new segment opening up a whole new area of opportunity for us against web-based worm attacks. Application firewalls can remove all illegal requests that are really intrusions. The speed of response of applications is very important. Irrespective of where you are and running anywhere, it will run like you are on the LAN. People are today talking of applications going wireless and of using mobile applications, NetScaler can increase these benefits.
