Dell unveils dual-core Inspiron 6400 notebook

BANGALORE: Dell Computers has launched its Precision range of laptops in India. Targeting the business notebook market, Dell has positioned the products as enterprise mobility devices.

Justifying Dell’s stance, Rakesh Mandal, Senior brand manager, Precision CoC, said, “Enterprise mobility does not cater to the need of the customer today, but tomorrow, from an India perspective“. "The notebooks cater to needs which are mission-critical, server integrated application oriented. From a broader perspective, it resembles a server,” he said.

With dual core processors and Serial ATA, which has moved from the desktop to the mobile platform, “technology earlier prevalent only in desktops has now moved to laptops”, said Mandal.

The laptops are packaged with a biometric finger print reader, 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi capability, TPM 1.2 support, said Mandal. “The laptops will not be out of place as and when these technologies become commonplace, said Mandal.

With a 2MB L2 cache, 4GB memory and 227 MHz speed, 512 MB NVIDIA graphics memory, the M65 is priced from Rs 1,09,000.
The M90 includes all the above features and 1920x1200 resolution display, onboard IEEE 1394, three-button touch pad and DVI and SVGA video outputs. It is priced from Rs 119,200.

Dell also plans top phase out its D510 range of notebooks to be replaced by the D520.
“The 510 will get replaced by the 520 in the coming year. The objective is to offer more from the same price point. It improves the price-performance parameter,” said Mandal.

Dell which has largely targeted the larger enterprise is now “eying the small and medium business (SMB) market” with its ‘budget’ laptops, according to Mandal. “We have a product to cater to each market need”, he said. The price range for its Latitude range starts from sub Rs 45,500 base configuration.

Dell has been clocking 50 per cent growth in revenues year-on-year from India and aims to outpace market growth.
