Roamware solution controls cost of mobile roaming

VoIP calls go mobile

BANGALORE: Global roaming experts Roamware have launched a solution that controls mobile roaming costs for the user while enabling network operators to maintain their revenue streams by attracting new roaming customers.

Roamware's SMS Roaming & Rating opens up international access for SMS-only roaming services for both prepaid and post-paid subscribers.

Travellers who would normally either be call-barred, or suffer the high price of paying for both their incoming and outgoing calls, can now have the ability to keep in touch via SMS only.

Customers have full control over their roaming costs, with no need to pay deposits or provide credit guarantees. As SMS is charged at a fixed rate, roamers know exactly how much it is costing them to communicate.

The service generates more revenue for operators by opening up roaming services to users who currently cannot, or are not allowed to, roam with their mobile. Operators can open up international roaming service to their entire customer base.

Roamware's SMS Roaming & Rating enables operators to charge outgoing SMS transactions for prepaid customers, including CAMEL Phase 2, on a real time basis.

This solves the issue of revenue leakage currently caused by delayed billing of roaming transactions; Roamware's solution also solves the problem of USSD-based Callback for prepaid customers who cannot send SMS messages while roaming.

The solution can also interwork with CAMEL prepaid outbound roamers who can currently call but not text.

"This is a simple and seamless answer to enabling roaming capability for millions of new users. Today only 15 per cent of the worldwide GSM customer base of 1.6 billion people uses roaming services. There is a huge potential for operators to expand roaming within the existing global subscriber base, and we have developed the capability for achieving that potential," said Bobby Srinivasan, Roamware CEO.
