NEW DELHI: After rolling out low-cost colored handsets priced at around $27, Reliance Communications is setting its eyes on the high-end segment with plans to launch CDMA Blackberry service within this year.

Disclosing this to CyberMedia News, SP Shukla, president, personal business, Reliance Communications said that the company is in talks with Research In Motion (RIM) to offer its services through the CDMA Blackberry devices.

With the launch of the Blackberry services, Reliance will be the first operator to launch the services in India. RIM has not yet launched its CDMA handsets in India.

The device is primarily provides e-mail access to roaming employees. It delivers information over the wireless data networks of mobile phone service companies. Blackberry first made headway in the marketplace by concentrating on e-mail.

Introduced in 1999, the BlackBerry is a wireless handheld device that supports push e-mail, mobile telephone, text messaging, internet faxing, web browsing and other wireless information services.

However, in the GSM space, RIM has launched six Blackberry devices through Bharti Airtel and Hutch.

For a long time Reliance has been trying hard to bring in CDMA Blackberry services for its consumers.
