BARCELONA: Mobile industry leaders today announced the launch of the converged messaging technology (COMET) consortium to advance Next Generation Messaging.

COMET will undertake the world’s first large-scale research and development initiative into converged messaging architectures and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) technology to deliver a truly intuitive user experience across any device.

The initiative will be carried out over two and a half years and has a total budget of over € 7 million, jointly funded by the COMET partners and the European Commission (EC), which is contributing a €3.4 million research subsidy.

The consortium includes LogicaCMG, Colibria, HP, Movial, Software Quality Systems (SQS) and the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e).

The initiative will bring together top scientists and engineers for pioneering research and product development in the telecoms industry. The EC subsidy is financed through the Sixth Research Framework Programme in the area of Information Society Technologies.
