Cellebrum launches 'Select Caller List Application' for mobiles

"India is an important market for MED"

Cellebrum has developed an application that will check unwanted credit card calls and personal loans. Savinder Sarna, Head (Marketing and Business Alliance), Cellebrum in an exclusive interview with Bhaskar Hazarika of CyberMedia News revealed the company’s new product that helps consumers choose their incoming calls.

Cellebrum, a provider of value added services to telecom majors in India and across Asia, has recently tied-up with London-based VAS company ICE to cater to the telecom markets across the globe.

What is Select Caller List (SCL)?

Select Caller List is a value addition to mobile peer-to-peer calling. With this application a subscriber can define his or her caller list for incoming calls. If the customers choose to black list the numbers from which he does not want to receive call, he can do it by himself. It is a customized solution in which the subscriber (called party) can bar his or her selective incoming calls (calling party) or can even define his or her allowed caller list.

How does this application run? What are the pre-requisites that an operator should have in order to offer this service to customers?

It is a process through which a customer can choose the phone numbers from which he does not want to receive calls. Suppose caller A dials subscriber B, the call is transferred to SCL Gateway for further action. Based on Service Logic, SCL Gateway can instruct to continue the call as in normal scenario, or take alternate action as defined by the subscriber B. In case Caller A is in the black list of subscriber B, the recorded prompt or a standard prompt is played back to caller A for unavailability of the number.

A subscriber can choose among several options on the pre-recorded prompt or leave a message by recording his own message as desired. However, the subscriber can also subscribe to optional SMS alerts, which would inform the user about all calls received for his number.

There are no such pre-requisites for an operator to offer this service.

What are the advantages that a subscriber will get from this service?

A subscriber can utilize this service for barring the numbers from which they do not want to receive calls, or can define their list of mobile numbers through which they want to receive their calls only. Before going into roaming, user can define a list of users from whom he should receive calls. This also helps a subscriber to bar unwanted calls. Above all, it also offers the facility through which a user can be informed on SMS about all calls received for his mobile. It would allow user to call back to those numbers if required. It can act as another value added service at premium charge for corporate customers.

Have operators shown interest in adopting this service?

This is a new technology and we have pioneered this application for the service providers. Currently this application is being offered by a couple of operators in selected circles. We have developed a launched this application last month. We are also in talks with all the major service providers for offering this service.

Which are the operators you are in talks with for offering this service?

Currently we are in talks with almost all the mobile service providers across the country. However, Spice Telecom has already started this service in Punjab from August-end. We are expecting this service to be started by other service providers within this year. This is an attractive service, which will bring huge revenue for the operator.

Has any other application provider offered this service?

This is an exclusive application, which has been developed by Cellebrum. No other company has come up with such offerings till now.
