How do you see the VoIP market in India?
The VoIP market in India is not very far away from the present US market. But India has a strong technological prospective. With the wide adoption of new standards and increased broadband penetration, the market is now almost ready for new ventures. Market data indicates that the overall consumer and enterprise VoIP market will grow from $8 bn in 2004 to $38 bn in 2008.
Which Industry verticals are you targeting?
We are targeting three verticals-infrastructure, enterprise, and consumers. We are generally targeting on consumer electronics-Wi-Fi videophones and dual-mode technology phones, which are really very popular in China and other European countries.
Tell us more about competition in the product space?
In India, regarding the competition in product space Trinity is very new. In the global market, as the unit volumes increase and more consumer electronic companies enter the VoIP market, designers and manufacturers of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and original design manufacturer (ODM) have a stiff competition. Communication equipments (OEMs and ODMs) are under competitive pressure to keep costs as low as possible.
In addition, the entry of the consumer electronics companies, especially in the consumer handset market, has created a need for all players to introduce new features and functionality multiple times per year in order to fill out their product portfolios and deliver differentiated products. OEMs are finding that in-house development of VoIP, which requires a significant investment in a highly skilled labor-pool, is no longer a commercially reasonable option. The associated development timelines and ever-shifting market trends increase the OEM's risk exposure, resulting in a need to move from a 'build' to 'buy' scenario when choosing embedded VoIP or video solutions.
