MUMBAI: Western Digital Corp. has launched its redesigned WD Passport Portable Drives.

“WD Passport is available in capacities of 60, 80, 120 and 160 GB, fits easily in your pocket or purse and weighs less than five ounces,” Western Digital said in a statement.

It simplifies the synchronization of essential personal files and Microsoft Outlook data on a PC making it easy for consumers to take desktop content with them.

WD Sync software enables users to securely access, edit and share Microsoft Word documents and Excel spreadsheets, MP3 files, e-mails, attachments and more from anywhere - in a cybercafé, on a friend's laptop or in a colleague's office. And should owners misplace WD Passport, they know their data is protected with 128-bit encryption, the statement added.

Google software on the drive allows users to easily locate files with the Google Desktop Search search tool, manage photos with Picasa photo organizer software and simplify Web searches with the Google Toolbar search bar. WD Passport Portable Drives are equipped with a fast 5,400 RPM hard drive and a USB 2.0 interface. Combined with the easy-to-set-up, customizable WD Sync software, WD Passport is easy to use anywhere - simply plug in and store.

Jim Welsh, vice president and general manager of WD's branded products group, said, "WD Passport enables consumers to carry their entire digital portfolio with them in a package small enough to slip into a small pocket and stylish enough to display on a desktop. This is the ultimate personal storage device."

WD Passport Portable Drives are available with Mediaman Infotech priced at Rs 10,000 for the WD Passport Portable Drive 160 GB capacity and Rs 9,000 for the 120 GB capacity.
