BANGALORE: Storage startup TidalData today unveiled the UniVault, a storage solution customized for the Indian and Asian small business customer segment.

UniVault integrates varied data access applications into industry standard storage access protocols layered on top of its ILM foundation core. It will allow customers to avoid frequent backups, protect consolidated information, build information access infrastructure, enhance digital data management and to have affordable data security at their fingertips.

TidalData’s initial product offering (UniVault- XL 1000) is targeted at the SMB market for companies with 50 employees or less. The XL1000 will be released by the 2nd quarter of this year. The product will be initially launched with direct sales across India supplemented by tie-ups with channels based on select market segment.

Kumar Malavalli, founder and storage networking pioneer in San Jose, addressing the press conference, said, “As storage technology moves rapidly forward, information consolidation and its eventual management overheads are creating barriers in universal adoption. SMBs require platforms that directly exploit their applications by using co-opted storage and create homogenous transitions of information from primary information to archive data.”

Out of 8.5 million PCs installed in Asia and 9.25 million PCs in India by 2010, 50 per cent of the installation is in SMB and SOHO sector. Malavalli said that TidalData would like to address this segment and also tap storage revenue potential of $ 2.2 billion from Asian SMB market in 2006.

Adarsh Holavanahalli, CEO, TidalData, said, “TidalData targets to deliver products mainly to the non IT sector, which constitutes 70 per cent of the SMB segment, like academics, legal, clinic, manufacturing etc and mundane day to day users.”

Talking about the product, Holavanahalli, said, “The UniVault provides -information consolidation, reliable disk failure protection, ensure secure information access and central management of information, which increases growth, efficiency, stability and performance.”

TidalData centralizes the data first, provides security, increase productivity by sharing resources and provide complete data archive. "Back up is done automatically and also provides online support where fault isolation done entirely from the remote support center. Further the storage platform can be upgraded from Internet,”
