BANGALORE: Quantum Corp., has launched the DPM5500 disk-based backup appliance that integrates an optimized platform and differentiated features with Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2006.

DPM is a server software application that is designed from the ground up for disk-based backup and recovery. It is meant to reduced complexity and improve operational efficiency in the backup and recovery of data for Microsoft Windows Server platform customers.

The company said that the DPM5500 offers delivers increased replication opportunities for greater restore granularity.

Integrated features such as Optyon hardware-based compression technology are meant to lower TCO.  The tape migration capabilities support disaster recovery best practices and would enable customers to begin constructing tiered storage environments.

Quantum said in a statement that it has worked with Microsoft to address many of the data protection challenges customers face, such as cost-effectively shrinking backup windows, reliable backups and data restoration.
