NEW DELHI: IBM today said that it would double its data centre capacity across the world in the next three years.

Steven Sams, vice president, global site and facilities, global technology services at IBM told CyberMedia News that the new additional data centres will be equipped with energy efficiency systems.

“We will be doubling our data centre capacity to 12 million sq. ft from the current 6 million sq. ft in the next three years, and will be investing $ 500 million every year, in the next three years,” he said on the sidelines of the launch of ‘Project Big Green.

Sams said that since India is a significant and growing market, it might have as many data centres located here, out of the expansion strategy.

“There are two ways we will be attaining energy efficiency, one is to reduce the power usage in the existing facilities and also put in energy efficient systems in the new ones. We are aiming to double the data centre capacity that will consume as much energy, which is used today. Thus there will be no addition in wattage used, but 40-50 per cent of power will be saved,” he added.
