We wouldnt invest in India if we didnt see significant growth potential here: WD

StorIT, a major distributor for storage technology providers such as EMC, ADIC, StorageTek, Qlogic, Fibrenetix, Imation, in the Middle East has set up base in India. Suren Vedantham,  Managing Director, StorIT, reveals his strategies for India in an interview with CIOL.

How do you plan to make a break through into the competitive Indian market?
StorIT is a value added distributor focused on a niche segment of IT, ie., Data Storage, Protection, and Management. Our focused approach as a pure play storage solutions distributor has helped us develop cutting edge consultancy driven sales methodology which provides a unique value proposition to our reseller channel.

What kind of business (in terms of revenue and market share) are you expecting from the Indian market?
The external storage market size estimated by leading industry analysts was around $120 million in India. And it is growing at the rate of more than 50 percent annually. We are confident of achieving a decent share of that market potential followed by an ambitious annual growth rate.

How is India different form the markets you have been operating in so far?
In terms of the market size and high growth opportunities, both markets share similarities owing to fast developing economies. StorIT in the Middle East has been successful in establishing a structured reseller channel across 12 countries, supported by a mélange of professional services, which extend great value to both our reseller and our vendor partners. We expect to establish a successful model of business on same lines even in India, which is at a nascent stage of growth in enterprise data storage segment. The logistics, administrative and regulatory areas of business remain very different in the Middle East and India, but then again our India operations are staffed by resources from the local market, who are experts in these domains.

What are the value additions unique to StorIT?
In addition to bringing cutting technology to the region, we provide advanced Pre-sales Consultancy, Project Assessment, Solution Planning & Design, Technical Implementation & Deployment and Technical Support & Maintenance Services as key value additions to our reseller partners.

StorIT’s Professional Storage Services portfolio encompasses the complete spectrum of technical services that aid an enterprise in analyzing, planning for, implementing and managing their strategic digital storage needs. The various elements of our Storage Services portfolio include:
· Storage Assessment Consulting
· Storage Architecture Design
· Solution Implementation & Deployment
· Education & Training

What is your investment in India?
Significantly high considering our plans to have offices in all key regional cities in India before the end of our first year of operation.

Who are your partners in India?
We are Authorized Value Added Distributors, in the Middle East and North Africa, for the most reputable names in the industry, viz., EMC, ADIC, Qlogic, etc. StorIT India has signed up distribution contracts with most these partners in India, and hope to formalize agreements with  the rest of them very soon.
