Emco Malware Cleaner specializes in remotely scanning hosts on a network for viruses, worms, and Trojans. Moreover, it can also clean remote hosts without installing any agent on them. So a remote user would never know that his machine is being scanned for security. It can even find which anti virus is loaded on each host on the network. This can be a really useful feature. It scans and discovers all machines on your network, after which you can define a range of IP addresses to scan.

Scanning
The software provides two scanning modes: Simple and Expert. Simple mode lets you scan a single IP, a specified IP range and perform a full domain scan. Enter the required details as per your choice of scan and after the scan is done, a box dialog with the detected malware is shown. Click on Execute to clean the detected malware. Various other details like the custom signatures used, anti-virus software, currently running process and startup programs of the scanned computers are also displayed in separate tabs. In Expert mode, you have a button to scan for available nodes on a network and add machines via IP range (or manually).

Press the 'Enumerate LAN' button to search for machines on the network. Once the search is complete, the machines' names are displayed under their respective workgroup. In case a machine is not detected, it can be added using the 'Add machine' button by specifying either the IP address or name of the machine. To add the machines for scanning from the ones detected, drag and drop them to the window on the right side.

There are three tabs in the right window pane in Expert mode-Scan computers, Management and Schedule. Scan computers would scan the selected machines and you can specify if the scan should be done using all or specified signatures. Select specified signatures to get a box that lists existing malware definition with a name and category. Select the required definitions and click on Scan. The results are displayed in a new tab window in the right pane itself. The Management button has the options to delete selected machines from the list, add more machines within an IP range alongwith saving, and loading the list of selected machines for future scans. The Schedule button generates a command line for the task scheduler, which needs to be copy/pasted into the task scheduler settings.

A detailed list of detected malware and actions taken to neutralize them is shown on the right window pane s

Options
For in-depth scanning, go to Application settings>Manage settings. A 'Change settings' dialog box would come up. You can opt from options like what to scan between adwares, Trojan; viruses etc, set scanning rules for file level/registry level scanning alongwith maximum number of machines to scan simultaneously. Other options include saving the result logs and sending them via mail. To send messages over the server once the scan is done, go to Application settings>Message and check on the box that says 'Send message after scanning each computer', enter your message in the message box and click on OK. Every time a computer is scanned, the user at the other end would see the message.
