BANGALORE: Intrusion prevention player Tipping Point, which was recently acquired by 3Com, launched a security platform Tipping Point X505.

The company says that the X505 is the first integrated security platform built on Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) technology- the product includes an inspection Firewall, IPSec VPN, bandwidth management, Web content filtering and dynamic routing.

The product is targeted at enterprises, small and medium businesses with multiple remote branches or regional offices. The product is priced at US$4000.

The X505, says the company is the only Intrusion Prevention System that provides protection not only for data but over IP and Spyware.

"Network security is now commoditized, and we are different because we have a VoIP solution which integrates not only with our products, but also with third party products, thereby saving investments for customers," says Sanjay Manohar, country manager, 3Com India.

Denny Sam Thekenal, technical engineer, 3Com India added that the major cost saving and performance enhancer is enabled by the bandwidth management, which helps reduce overuse of bandwidth.

With more projects from US moving to India, the company plans to double manpower to 160 at its Hyderabad development center. The team is currently working on VoIP and IP telephony projects.

Expecting big demand in the country, the company will be investing in a spares center to service its customers locally. Quoting market figures, the Indian market for Intrusion detection and prevention systems will touch $1.68 billion by 2008, from the current $545 million, said Thekenal.
