NEW DELHI: The coming year will see an indigenously developed law for containing IT and other cyber crimes in India.
Nishith Seth, secretary of e-Information Systems and Security Audit Association and director of Seth Services said that the industry organisation’s working group – Forensic LTD-38, had completed drafting the core standards for cyber crimes and information security.
“India will be the first one to take this initiative on implementing national standards on cyber crimes, and we as an industry body have drafted the core standards, which will describe legally accepted evidence and procedures in taking to task someone who has involved in a cyber crime,” he said.
Seth said that the organisation would be submitting its draft to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Ministry of Commerce, which will have to make the standards official for adoption.
“However, IT/ITES companies are already interested to take this forward and adopt it even before they become the law of the land,” he informed adding that the government support for such a initiative was lacking, even though the industry was growing phenomenally in the country.
The industry body is also planning to start lead auditor course in the lines of the proposed standard – ISMS-15150, which would be accepted officially among the private companies, even before it become a law.
