NEW DELHI: Ciena Corporation, the network specialist, launched a multi-city roadshow covering New Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai to attract engineering talent to its first core R&D center in Gurgaon, outside of North America. The company’s chief technology officer (CTO), Stephen Alexander, will be present to formally inaugurate the R&D centre and commence the recruitment roadshow.

Ciena’s India facility is an addition to four existing Ciena R&D establishments in North America, all equipped with advanced design, development and testing laboratories. The 95,000 sq. ft. facility in Gurgaon will eventually house as many as 300 product development engineers in an environment that is congenial to challenging and creative R&D activity.

Steve Alexander, Ciena's chief technology officer and senior vice president of products and technology, said, "India has the potential to become a global innovation hub, positioning it as an influential power on the global R&D map. At Ciena, our mission at this new facility is to build an outstanding team that contributes to and builds upon that reputation. Toward this end, we are making meaningful investment in setting up a state-of-the-art R&D center in Gurgaon.

Ciena India will complement Ciena’s R&D efforts in the US and Canada in helping the company design and deliver carrier-class solutions for its global customer base, which includes more than two-thirds of the world’s largest service providers such as AT&T, British Telecom, Cable & Wireless, France Telecom, Korea Telecom, Qwest, SingTel, Telmex and Verizon.

Neeraj Gulati, vice president and managing director of Ciena India, said, "At Ciena India, we offer careers, not just jobs. We provide employees an opportunity to collaborate with leading-edge engineering teams in North America on research and development work that addresses all stages of the product lifecycle for carrier-class networking solutions.”

Malvieka Joshi, director of human resource for Ciena India, added, “For our engineering positions, we are seeking professionals with all levels of experience across a broad range of skill sets to take advantage of the growth opportunities and enjoyable learning environment provided by Ciena India.

“Ciena is regarded worldwide as a pioneer in networking technology, with a number of industry and technology firsts to its name. Our advanced R&D centre in India offers candidates the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and developments in hardware, software and systems domains. This full-service R&D centre will encompass project management, systems engineering, hardware, software development and testing with additional engineering service functions employed on-site, and will be integral in enabling Ciena to continuously deliver advanced communications solutions to customers worldwide,” said Dimple Amin, vice president of engineering, Ciena India.
