NEW DELHI: Chinese mobile phone makers are getting attracted to India and have plans to launch their products here, thanks to the booming mobile phone penetration in the country.
'Convergence India' offered ample opportunity for these companies to interact with potential partners.
An official of China-based Brandshine Communication Development Co. Ltd informed CyberMedia News that his company is on the look out for a partner in India to launch its handsets.
“We are planning to launch our handset here in the next one month. We have been interacting with a number of distributors in the Convergence India event, but are yet to finalize them,” said Sam Chan of Brandshine.
The Chinese phone maker is keen on launching its GSM mobile in the Indian market. It plans to launch its 12 handsets priced between $50-150 in the competitive mobile market. The company has its manufacturing unit in China and exports handsets to Vietnam, Israel, Thailand and Hong Kong.
The handsets, with sleek and added features, once launched in India, are likely to give a tough competition to other manufacturers. However, looking at the price sensitive India, these handsets are likely to offer more features at low cost.
Taiwanese Dopod Communication India is also planning to launch a couple of handset models in the coming months time. High Tech Computers (HTC), Taiwan, is manufacturing Dopod.
A senior official of Dopod Communication informed that the company has lined up an array of handsets to be launched in India this year.
Dopod had launched four PDAs in India in the later part of 2006. The company claims to hold the number one position in the PDA segment.
A senior official from Dopod informed that they have prepared a roadmap for the year ahead. “We are planning to launch around three handsets in the next couple of months. In the last couple of months it has been witnessed that the demand for the PDAs has been on rise and this market augurs well for this segment,” he added.
After launching its four models in major metros, the company is planning to expand its presence across the country. “These handsets are available in 19 cities across the country including the metros. We are looking forward to cater to all the cities across the country,” the official added. The company has already appointed a national distributor in India to market its products.
