BANGALORE: IT and R&D services provider Mindtree today showcased a new analog integrated circuit (IC) that weighs 1.5 mm for a Korean customer.

Subroto Bagchi, COO, Mindtree, said that the IC is equipped with intelligent power management features for Lithium ion batteries, which are used in hand-held mobile devices.

“The challenge for portable devices lies in miniaturizing the battery. Mindtree’s analog chip helps hand-held devices to use power optimally for a longer time,” said Bagchi.

The chip was entirely custom-built for the Korean company from the conceptualization stage to the product design. The analog IC is expected to ship in early 2006.

Besides this chip, the company also announced that Japanese company NEC would integrate Bluetooth wireless technology into its GSM phones. Mindtree’s Bluetooth IP will allow NEC customers to wirelessly transfer photos, music, video clips, address book contacts and schedules and also use their phone as a wireless modem and printer.

Mindtree has built capabilities in wireless technologies like Bluetooth, Ultra Wide Band (UWB), near Field Communications standards and Zigbee technology. The company licenses its portfolio of Bluetooth IP to customers including Epson and Nera.

Bagchi said that the company’s investment of $2.5 million into its R&D services was paying off in terms of customer acceptance. He added that the company is aiming revenues of $100 million this year from $55 million in the previous year.

“We will be the first Indian services company to reach $100 million in revenues in six years,” he said.
